The Fife Area Chamber of Commerce held its first annual Chamber Golf Classic Sept. 24, raising just under $6,000 for chamber activities. The tournament replaced the chamber’s usual auction, held around this time every year, as its annual fundraiser to complement membership dues.

“We had lots of terrific sponsors and pretty much everybody walked away with some kind of raffle prize,” said Chamber Director PK MacLean. “I think everybody who participated – sponsors, golfers, volunteers – had a really good time.”

About 40 members of the local business community and friends participated in the event. As an added enticement, Jaguar of Fife offered a free two-year lease on a Jaguar to the first participant to get a hole-in-one – no one did.

Much of the event organization was done by the chamber’s visitor information intern, Nathan Knutzen, a junior at the University of Washington.

“We couldn’t have done it without him,” MacLean said.

While the chamber fell short of its fundraising goals for the event, members and organizers alike are excited for next year.

“I’ve been assured by many who do golf tournaments that just like any great event it does take a year or two to take off,” MacLean said. “Everybody’s positive response has just made me really enthusiastic about next year.”
